Abstract: In the past, the economic relationship between Indonesia and China had not been smooth, mainly due to political reasons. However, increased integration of China into the world market after its joining of the World Trade Organization (WTO) provides the opportunity for an economic relationship that is more detached from politics. As China becomes more integrated into the world market, Asian as well as global economies will reap the benefits of a more open trade partner. Furthermore, China's involvement in the ASEAN+3 group to promote cooperation in financial, monetary, and general economic fields is an important step toward further integration of Asian economies as a whole.
