Abstract:
This paper traces the development of the liberalisation process in Indonesia and its contribution to improving the competitiveness of Indonesia's industry. Indonesia has been actively liberalising its trade unilaterally, multilaterally under the WTO, and regionally with APEC and AFTA. The crisis threatened this liberalisation process, as some countries in used the crisis as an impetus to return to protectionism. Nevertheless, with the commitment of ASEAN leaders with the Bali Concord II to form an ASEAN Economic Community, the opportunity is there to push forward liberalisation in Indonesia.
