Literature Review of Frameworks for Macro-indicators

Abstract: This report provides a literature review of conceptual and operational frameworks for macro-indicators of economic, labour market, and social well-being. It is organized into three parts: a discussion of general framework issues including aggregative versus non-aggregative approaches, variable selection, and evaluation criteria; a review of six particularly important frameworks including the EU Social Indicators, Human Development Index, OECD Social Indicators, CSLS IEWB, Treasury Board Quality of Life Indicators, and Gender Equality Indicators; and a survey of an additional 31 sets of indicators and composite indexes across economic, social, and labour market domains.
