Abstract:
[EN] Analysis of the Turkish labor market data reveals a strong correlation between labor force participation and employment. The magnitude of this correlation differs with respect to the industry that leads the change in employment. This note aims to address these sector specific differences. Empirical evidence indicates that, in the short-run, compared with employment in industry and services sectors, employment in the construction sector exhibits a weaker (stronger) association with labor force (unemployment). In other words, to the extent that pick-up (slow down) in economic activity is led by the construction sector, its positive (adverse) impact on unemployment is more pronounced.
