Abstract:
The aim of this work is to validate a general methodology for the economic evaluation of wetlands in the tropic, and to modify it in order to achieve a quick economic valuation of the ecosystem in Petexbatún Wetlands. The results obtained for the economic values are not fully consistent with the ecological importance of the goods and services attributed to the ecosystem (Barbier, 1989). Nevertheless, as a first approach using an economic unit of measurement, it can also be considered as a methodological contribution to the analysis of ecosystems, an area with scarce information and research accumulation.
