Abstract: In this paper we present series of disposable wage index from 1969 to 2008 for the private sector of Montevideo, period for which Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) has elaborated an average wage index with different changes of base year, with its corresponding changes in the activities researched and with its methodological changes. In order to obtain a harmonized series through time, we have done a joint of series establishing different criterion. These joints of series allow the users to have long series of wages, not only for manufacturing industry as usual, but also for other activities such as services, trade, transporting. Besides, the information that is offered has the novelty to include a great number of activities classes to a high level of disintegration. We include in the wage series the increases above minimum authorized from November 1975 to October 1980, which shows that the same represented for the private sector of Montevideo once and a half more than without including the survey results. This would mean a lesser fall of the wages during the period 1975-1980. The analysis for activities indicates that trade, building and manufacturing industry respectively, show a better evolution if we compare the increases above minimum authorized with the official evolution in the period chosen.
