Abstract:
In this paper we realize a descriptive characterization of the intense transnationalization process in the meat-packing industry in Uruguay in the last years. We show the main determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) from international and regional factors, to general determinants in the country and specific in the sector; and the central effects of transnational corporations presence in terms of production, exports, investment and innovation, and articulation to primary sector. In the same way, we describe the institutions and the policies applied in the sector, that implied public investments, improving both national and transnational firms.
