Abstract: This paper describes the income distribution in the Goiania metropolitan area comparing the data census for 1991 and 2000. In general, we observe a clear trend of increasing per capita income and poverty alleviation in the region. However, data also show a significant increase in income inequality, despite the national trend and showing that the wealthy are more benefited from the development and increased income. Data from new census of 2010 should help to better understand this paradox of increased quality of life and increased inequality in metropolitan area.
