Abstract:
This research aims to analyze the impacts of the Brazilian agriculture modernization over the worker’s wage and unemployment in Brazil, between 1998 and 2007. The modernization is related to agriculture production and productivity; the evolution of productivity, qualification, unemployment and wages in agriculture is described; and the relationship between these variables is analyzed. The productivity is measured by Gasques et al (2008) using the Tornqvist index. The data about income and unemployment is from 1998 to 2007 PNADs. Conclusions are that the modernization raised the productivity, and therefore increased worker´s qualification, although unemployment also increased.
