Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the evolution of rural finance for livestock - noting the evolution of both instruments are considered traditional rural credit as the so called new financial instruments agribusiness - and their relationships with regional growth of this activity in Brazil. In particular, we analyze the composition of livestock rural credit in Brazil, from 1969 to 2010, and compares it with the regional distribution of the herd, checking if there is a direct relationship between these two variables and observing the trends of their distribution by region. To achieve these objectives, we perform an interpretative analysis of secondary data organized in the form of graphs and tables and to calculate rates of growth in geometric series and coefficients of correlation between credit volume and size of herds. The results show that there is, in general, direct, linear relationship between the distribution of credit and the flock among the geographical regions of Brazil, nor the growth of these two variables. That is, the evolution of the flock and credit are different between regions in different periods of analysis, especially the North. There is also that new financing instruments of agribusiness, particularly the rural ballot product (CPR), have increasingly gained importance as a financing alternative for farmers, although there is no complete information on their use in livestock.
