Working Papers from Universidad Iberoamericana, Department of Economics

Abstract: There is a growing interest for designing policies that may help increase the use formal financial products by poor people. We use a panel database of families with access to these financial products and analyze why some use these products and others not. To verify the robustness of our results, we also analyze what factors are responsible in the change of these decisions overtime. Among the multiple determinants we find family wealth, local shocks, labor position and whether the family receives government transfers.
