CEVIPOL Working Papers from ULB -- Universite Libre de Bruxelles

This paper aims at assessing the impact of contemporary forms of mobility on the formation or strengthening of a psycho-sociological or socio-political process of identification with Europe at the individual level. Interviews with former students who went abroad in the frame of the EU Erasmus programme bring evidence that the confrontation with an alien environment and the encounter with others who are culturally different allow young individuals to both sharpen their self-perception and open to plural belongings, including European identity.
