Abstract:
This chapter presents a synthesis of the case studies discussed in the preceding chapters. European countries faced with increasing globalization, intensifying international competition, or the rise of newly industrializing countries such as China, must adjust their economies to move ahead. They must develop their growth potential, create jobs, and adapt their various welfare systems to the new economic and demographic realities.
