Abstract:
The application of 16 processes for reducing atmospheric pollution (CO, NO, SO 2, Pb) to Belgium automobiles, is examined. The technical features of these different processes are described with the emphasis on effectiveness and ensuing energy saving. The investment and utilization costs of these devices are compared with respect to the emission standards they guarantee. These costs are passed in to the Belgium automobile population with respect to the reduction in emmissions obtained. Among the processes reviewed, the controlled combustion motor, the turbocompressor, and the diesel motor give the best results from both an economic and environmental point of view.
