Abstract: There is a certain group of worker characteristics which typically has great influence in the determination of wage distribution. This set of characteristics define the wage structure of a given economy. The careful study of the wage structure makes explicit different aspects of incentives and different kinds of discrimination which are implicit in the wage distribution. In this paper we present a quantilic regression analysis of the wage structure in Uruguay between 1986 and 2007 for a set of six characteristics: sex, education, experience, industry, region and public/private sector. In sharp contrast with the traditional OLS analysis, we show that wage differentials associated with the listed characteristics show great variation along the distribution.
