Abstract:
The main feature of the history of livestock production in the period refers to the stagnation of the productive capacity of the natural prairie, evident in the stability of the cattle stock throughout the period and the stop of the cattle's slaughter since 1930. This paper discusses the evolution of the cattle stock, the causes of its stagnation and the period in which this process took place. Some features discussed in the paper are related to the changes in the international market as well as in the technology applied to the production and the public policies oriented to the sector.
