Abstract: The Batllismo was a defining political and cultural phenomenon of Uruguay in the first three decades of the twentieth century. One of the most characteristic aspects of his speech and action was economic and social reformism. Within the limits of capitalism and political liberalism, it was proposed to carry an important number of reforms aimed at transforming the productive structure, the external integration and the economic and social functions of the state. This working document sets out the ideological underpinnings, the "model country" and the economic concepts that batllismoŽs economic projects registered. It also describes the general guidelines and specific achievements of the government economic management that occurred between 1911 and 1930 with the objective of evaluating the gap between the proposals made at discursive and programmatic level and the measures actually implemented in that period.
