Abstract: The 2018 Report examines the relationship between migration and structural transformation in Africa and evaluates the economic and social implications of migration flows within and beyond the continent. It analyses the contribution of migrants to labour markets, skills development, trade, investment and knowledge transfer in both origin and destination countries. Particular attention is given to the developmental potential of intra-African migration and its role in promoting regional integration and economic diversification. The Report assesses challenges associated with migration governance and considers policies that can maximize development benefits while addressing social and economic risks. It also examines the contribution of diaspora networks and remittances to productive investment and economic development. The analysis highlights migration as an important component of broader development and transformation strategies.
