Abstract: The 2007 Report examines key developments affecting world seaborne trade, shipping markets, fleet expansion, freight costs, transport services and regulatory frameworks. It analyses trends in cargo movements, vessel ownership, port throughput and logistics performance, with a particular focus on developments in Asia. The Report evaluates the rapid growth of maritime trade and shipping activities in the region and considers the implications for global transport networks and supply chains. It also reviews developments in trade facilitation, maritime security and international regulatory initiatives affecting shipping and port operations. Particular attention is given to transport costs and connectivity challenges faced by developing and landlocked countries. The analysis combines statistical data with policy assessment to provide a comprehensive overview of developments shaping international maritime transport and trade.
