Abstract: The 2010 Report examines recent developments in world seaborne trade, shipping markets, ports and logistics services in the context of the global economic downturn and subsequent recovery. It analyses trends in maritime transport demand, fleet capacity, container traffic, freight rates and shipping connectivity, with particular attention to their implications for developing countries. A special focus is devoted to Asia and the Pacific, assessing the effects of the global financial crisis on trade flows, transport networks and maritime industries across the region. The Report evaluates changes in liner shipping connectivity, maritime infrastructure and trade performance and considers challenges faced by least developed and landlocked countries in accessing global markets. It also reviews important legal and regulatory developments affecting international shipping, including environmental and safety-related measures. The analysis provides a comprehensive overview of factors shaping maritime transport and trade in a changing global environment.
