Abstract: The 2015 Report examines the contribution of maritime transport to sustainable development and analyses the evolving relationship between shipping, trade, environmental performance and economic growth. It reviews developments in world seaborne trade, fleet capacity, freight markets, ports and logistics services, and assesses their implications for developing countries. Particular attention is given to the role of shipping within the emerging sustainable development agenda, including issues related to transport efficiency, energy use, environmental impacts and regulatory reform. The Report analyses trends in maritime transport demand and supply and considers how technological change, infrastructure investment and policy measures can improve the sustainability and resilience of global transport systems. The analysis highlights the importance of maritime transport in supporting international trade while addressing economic, social and environmental objectives.
