Abstract: The 2022 Report examines developments in maritime transport during a period marked by supply-chain disruptions, high freight rates, geopolitical tensions and continuing economic uncertainty. It analyses trends in seaborne trade, shipping markets, port congestion, maritime connectivity and environmental performance, and assesses their implications for trade, inflation and economic development. Particular attention is given to the effects of the war in Ukraine, energy market volatility and disruptions in food and fertilizer supply chains on maritime transport services. The Report evaluates changes in freight costs, transport reliability and global logistics performance and considers their consequences for developing countries and vulnerable economies. It also reviews environmental and regulatory challenges affecting the sector and assesses policy responses aimed at improving resilience, connectivity and sustainability in international shipping and trade networks.
