United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
No 20, Trade and Development Report from United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
Abstract:
The 2001 Report reviews recent developments in the global economy and assesses their implications for growth and development, particularly in developing countries. It examines the effects of economic slowdown in major industrial economies, including the United States, and analyses the transmission of global economic conditions through trade, finance and investment channels. The Report also evaluates proposals for reforming the international financial architecture, including issues related to exchange-rate arrangements, crisis management, codes and standards, and private-sector participation in financial stabilization efforts. Particular attention is given to the capacity of multilateral institutions and international rules to address financial volatility and support development objectives. The analysis highlights the importance of international policy coordination and effective global governance in promoting economic stability and sustainable growth.
