Abstract: The 2006 Report examines the relationship between national development strategies and the evolving global partnership for development. It reviews recent trends in the world economy and assesses how changes in trade, finance, aid, debt relief, foreign direct investment and remittance flows affect developing countries. Particular attention is given to the capacity of national policies to promote capital formation, structural transformation and technological upgrading in an increasingly integrated global economy. The Report evaluates the role of international rules and institutions in supporting development objectives and considers the extent to which policy space remains available for proactive development strategies. The analysis highlights the importance of strengthening both domestic policy capabilities and international economic governance to achieve sustained growth, reduce poverty and support broader development goals.
