Abstract: The 2009 Report examines policy responses to the global financial and economic crisis and analyses their implications for development, climate change mitigation and long-term economic transformation. It reviews the causes and consequences of the crisis and assesses how economic contraction, financial instability and declining trade affect developing countries. Particular attention is given to the relationship between economic recovery strategies and environmental sustainability. The Report evaluates opportunities for combining expansionary fiscal policies, public investment and climate-related initiatives to support recovery while addressing long-term development challenges. It considers how investment in low-carbon infrastructure and environmentally sustainable activities can contribute to employment creation, technological progress and structural change. The analysis highlights the importance of coordinated international action and development-oriented policy responses to both economic and environmental challenges
