Abstract: The 2010 Report examines the relationship between employment, globalization and development in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. It analyses labour market trends, patterns of income distribution and the effects of globalization on employment creation in both developed and developing economies. Particular attention is given to the links between wages, domestic demand, productivity growth and economic recovery. The Report evaluates the limitations of growth strategies that rely on wage compression and export dependence, and considers alternative approaches that place employment generation and income growth at the centre of development policy. The analysis highlights the importance of coordinated macroeconomic, labour market and industrial policies in fostering job-rich growth, strengthening domestic demand and supporting more balanced and inclusive development outcomes.
