Abstract: The 2011 Report examines the policy challenges facing the world economy in the aftermath of the global financial and economic crisis. It analyses the uneven nature of the recovery, highlighting differences in domestic demand, employment performance and macroeconomic conditions between developed and developing economies. Particular attention is given to the effects of fiscal austerity, financial deregulation and persistent global imbalances on growth prospects. The Report evaluates reforms of financial regulation, commodity markets and international monetary arrangements and assesses their adequacy in addressing systemic vulnerabilities. It also examines the increasing influence of financialization on commodity prices and economic stability. The analysis identifies policy options for restoring sustained growth, strengthening financial regulation and improving international coordination in support of development and economic stability.
