Abstract: The 2014 Report examines the relationship between global governance, policy space and development in a period of continued economic uncertainty. It reviews recent trends in growth, trade and commodity markets and assesses why the global economy has struggled to establish a stable and sustainable growth path following the financial crisis. Particular attention is given to the concept of policy space and the ability of governments to design and implement development-oriented economic and social policies. The Report analyses the evolution of global economic governance and evaluates how international financial, trade and investment arrangements affect national policy autonomy. It also considers the role of industrial, trade and macroeconomic policies in achieving structural transformation, employment creation and poverty reduction. The analysis highlights the importance of balancing international commitments with national development priorities.
