Trade and Development Report 2019: Financing A Global Green New Deal
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
No 38, Trade and Development Report from United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
Abstract:
The 2019 Report examines the financing requirements associated with achieving sustainable development and addressing the global climate challenge. It analyses trends in growth, investment, public finance and international economic cooperation and assesses the adequacy of existing financial arrangements for supporting long-term development objectives. Particular attention is given to the scale of investment needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and facilitate a transition towards environmentally sustainable growth. The Report evaluates the limitations of current international financial arrangements and considers the implications of rising debt levels, weak investment performance and growing economic uncertainty. It also explores options for mobilizing public and private finance on a larger scale and strengthening multilateral cooperation. The analysis highlights policy measures aimed at supporting inclusive development while accelerating the transition to a more sustainable global economy.
