Abstract: The 2024 Report examines the economic, social and political sources of growing public dissatisfaction with prevailing development outcomes in many parts of the world. It analyses how persistent inequality, economic insecurity, financial instability and uneven distribution of the gains from globalization have contributed to rising social tensions and declining confidence in institutions. Particular attention is given to the limitations of prevailing policy approaches in addressing structural challenges affecting employment, productivity growth, public services and environmental sustainability. The Report evaluates alternative development strategies that place inclusive growth, structural transformation and social cohesion at the centre of policy design. It also considers the role of international cooperation, national policy space and institutional reform in responding to growing economic and social discontent. The analysis highlights policy options for fostering more equitable and sustainable development outcomes.
