Abstract: The 2021 Report examines the development implications of frontier technologies and analyses their potential effects on inequality, productivity and economic transformation. It reviews recent technological advances in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology and assesses the readiness of countries to adopt, adapt and benefit from these innovations. Particular attention is given to the risk of widening technological divides and unequal access to the opportunities created by the digital economy. The Report evaluates policy measures to strengthen innovation systems, industrial capabilities, digital infrastructure and skills development. It also considers the social and labour-market implications of technological change and examines approaches to supporting a more equitable distribution of its benefits. The analysis highlights the importance of national and international action to promote inclusive technological progress.
