Abstract: The 2010 Report examines the role of foreign direct investment in supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy and analyses the implications of climate-related investment for sustainable development. It reviews global and regional trends in investment flows following the financial crisis and assesses the changing distribution of foreign direct investment among developed, developing and transition economies. Particular attention is given to investment in renewable energy, climate mitigation technologies and environmentally sustainable industries. The Report evaluates policy measures that can attract investment to low-carbon activities while supporting economic growth and technological upgrading. It also considers the specific challenges faced by least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States in mobilizing investment. The analysis highlights the contribution of international investment to climate objectives and examines policy options for aligning investment strategies with sustainable development priorities.
