Abstract: The 2021 Report analyses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on global investment flows and examines the role of investment in supporting a sustainable and inclusive recovery. It reviews trends in foreign direct investment across regions and sectors, with particular attention to infrastructure, energy, health care and other areas critical for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Report evaluates the impact of the pandemic on greenfield investment, project finance and productive capacity development in developing economies. It also assesses policy responses designed to encourage sustainable investment and strengthen resilience in the face of future shocks. The analysis identifies investment priorities and policy measures aimed at accelerating recovery, supporting long-term development objectives and mobilizing additional resources for sustainable infrastructure and social development.
