Abstract: The 2026 Report examines foreign direct investment trends in a period characterized by geopolitical tensions, industrial policy expansion, technological competition and increasing investment screening measures. It analyses the uneven recovery of global investment flows and assesses the growing concentration of investment in a limited number of economies and strategic sectors. Particular attention is given to investment in clean energy, digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and critical minerals, and to the implications of these trends for developing countries. The Report evaluates how policy interventions, economic security considerations and changing international production networks are influencing investment decisions. It also examines challenges related to market access, technological upgrading and sustainable development. The analysis identifies policy priorities for strengthening investment attractiveness, increasing development benefits and supporting more inclusive participation in the evolving global investment landscape.
