Abstract:
Over the last few years there's been in upsurge in interest in the role played by financial markets spurring economic development. Although there is no clear way of identifying the separate effects of equity and loan capital markets on the level of investment and growth of an economy, studying particular markets is useful and we can learn much about the performance of New Zealand markets from comparisons with other countries. Girgio Calcagini compares New Zealand and Italian banking markets.
