Abstract: This paper reviews the literature on various forms of Employee Participation (EP) to develop a typology for understanding and measuring the phenomenon. Using the typology, various measures of EP used in past studies are explored and particularly measures derived from the 1990 Australian Workplace Industrial Relations Survey. The paper concludes with criteria for ideal measures of EP and related recommendations for the 1995 survey.
