Abstract: Some recent results on the evolution of conventions are reviewed. Concerning the theoretical part of the paper, we compare the traditional replicator dynamics approach (in the evolution of conventions) with the local interaction approach. Some new results on the coexistence of conventions are derived in a simple local interaction framework. Concerning the experimental part, we review some results on the evolution of conventions in populations with and without local interaction which can be regarded as an experimental test for the theoretical hypotheses presented in the first part of the paper. In both parts the crucial role of risk-dominance for the slection of conventions is investigated.
