Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to analyse the technological change produced in the Spanish economy between 1980 and 1994 using the Input-Output tables of 1980, 1986, 1990 and 1994. Firstly we obtain and compare the linkage components of each block throughout the period. Secondly, using Structural Decomposition Analysis, we obtain a technological effect and a demand effect for each of the previous components. These results show the process of the technological modernisation of the Spanish economy as well as its dual character, in which, along with the growth of high and medium technology sectors, the service sectors have an increasing weight in the economy, employing low technologies or purchasing technology that increases the costs.
