Abstract: In der drittgrößten Demokratie der Welt waren am 1. Oktober 2006 mehr als 125 Millionen Brasilianer aufgerufen, den Präsidenten, das Abgeordnetenhaus, ein Drittel der Senatoren, die Gouverneure und die Mitglieder der regionalen Parlamente neu zu wählen. Obwohl Präsident Lula in zahlreiche Korruptionsskandale verwickelt ist, sicherte ihm die Stichwahl am 29. Oktober eine zweite Amtszeit. Sie verspricht Kontinuität des Reformkurses in der Innenpolitik und Wandel im Sinne einer verstärkten Süd-Süd-Kooperation in der Außenpolitik.(SWP-aktuell / SWP)
