GFIELDS: Stata module to calculate decomposition of inequality by source
Stanislav Kolenikov
Statistical Software Components from Boston College Department of Economics
Abstract:
gfields decomposes income inequality by sources according to G. Fields' (yet unpublished) suggestion to use cov(xk*betak, y) as the measure of income (y) inequality explained by the factor xk. This probably has something to do with ANCOVA, but the foundation goes back into income distribution economics and is an economic one rather than statistical one.
