SCANDATA: Stata module to scan a dataset for specified characteristics

Malte Kaukal ()

Statistical Software Components from Boston College Department of Economics

Abstract: scandata scans the dataset and checks if variables fit certain criteria being important in light of data preparation. Those criteria can be: a certain length of variable/value labels and variable names; variable names containing uppercase characters; value and variable labels containing mutated vowels; having unlabeled values; containing an odd distribution . Variables being found are presented in tables. Furthermore, variables containing uppercase letters and/or mutated vowels can be corrected automatically. Thresholds used in length and finding odd distributions can be changed for individual purposes.
