MYWEEKS: Stata module for generating numbered weeks from daily date variables

Nicholas Cox

Statistical Software Components from Boston College Department of Economics

Abstract: myweeks takes a numeric daily date variable assumed to follow Stata's rule that daily dates are integers counted from 0 at 1 January 1960 and generates a new variable numbering the distinct weeks in which they occur with distinct integers. This is an alternative to Stata's own idiosyncratic week definitions. myweeks uses a rule that each week starts on a particular day of the week, one of Sunday to Saturday. By default the first complete week within 1960 is numbered 0. Optionally you may specify that weeks are indexed by the daily dates that start them. Indexing by the daily dates that end them is just a twist on the default.
