Abstract: The discipline of Islamic economics from an unknown and esoteric subject that emerged in 1940s has now reached a stage of visibility and recognition .The book under review is a critique of this journey in terms of its foundations, methodology, contributions vis-à-vis conventional economics and its practice related to Islamic banking and finance. The author has been a fellow traveler on this journey. In a way, it is a stock taking from an insider’s perspective, a narrative that is woven around disillusionment. The book is a provocative contribution to the literature. He has raised a large number of issues and concerns that are not possible to encompass here. However, a representative sample is reproduced for review.
