Abstract:
This study aims at making a short review on the concept of money demand with the focus on the efficiency of monetary policy. The global financial and economic crisis brought new challenges for monetary authorities, in the attempt of enhancing financial stability. In this context, determining the stability of money demand may have strong implications for monetary policy formulation. The main question we address in this paper is whether money demand function is still useful in times when central banks had to switch to unconventional monetary policies, based on previous experience of money demand estimates.
