Weight, Sex, and Feeder Cattle Price Differentials: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis

Abstract: A model is developed which helps explain the impact of weight, sex, and other animal characteristics on feeder cattle prices. Theoretical results are then compared with feeder price differentials observed over two cattle cycles. The influence of feed prices and fed cattle prices on these differentials is emphasized.
