Abstract:
By means of a discrete choice experiment farmers’ preferences for the cultivation of short rotation coppice (SRC) and miscanthus on arable land in selected regions of Baden-Wuerttemberg were investigated. To account for preference heterogeneity data was analyzed using a mixed logit model. Our results show that the cultivation of SRC and miscanthus are valued negatively. Increasing “risk aversion” and “farm size” both increase the implicitly assumed discount rate farmers apply. Nevertheless, derived monetary values suggest relevant potentials to establish SRC and miscanthus.
