Abstract:
Bulk milk shipments to destinations outside seven Federal milk order markets were analyzed on the basis of hauling charge per hundredweight, per hundredweight mile, and total shipment. Multiple regression techniques were used to estimate these charges, based on distance and volume of milk transported. Use of the segmented- type estimating equation provided estimates of hauling charges within 10 percent of actual costs more than 80 percent of the time.
