Abstract:
This article reviews the recent foundations of cooperative firms in Germany. We show that most cooperatives were founded outside the traditional cooperative sector. Examples are the sector of renewable energies, the health sector, and cooperative retail stores in rural areas. In other sectors like craftsmen cooperatives, public services, cooperatives of medium-sized firms there is ample potential remaining.
