Abstract:
The number of retired people is set to rise sharply, raising the question of the long-term financial sustainability of the pension system. Several reforms have been introduced in recent years to keep the system in balance. Insee?s Destinie microsimulation model is used to evaluate the impact of these reforms on employment behaviour and pensions. The paper describes the model?s overall architecture, then how the pension situation in the private sector will evolve, based on a simulation using the current rules (liquidation ages, period of insurance, average pension, etc.). The consequences of the 1993 reform and the introduction of index-linked pensions are then discussed.
