Abstract:
The French meso-system of armament (FMSA) goes on playing a key role in the French innovation system. The paper describes the main institutions ? the procurement agency (DGA), large contractors, and technological agencies which contribute to defence innovation and production. It then addresses the role and effects of defence R&D on the France?s technology policy and international competitiveness, and analyses the major transformations between the FMSA and the governmental S&T policy that took place in the 1990s.
